Older United States silver coins (1964 and before) are now in demand because of their silver content. (Many were melted down years ago.) At one time these were referred to as - junk silver - because they had no special collector value at the time. Junk silver is still used today to refer to old silver coins. However, times have changed. Today "junk silver coins" are becoming harder to find.
A $1.00 worth (face value) of silver dimes weighs the same (and has the same silver content) as a $1.00 in silver quarters, which also weighs the same as $1.00 in silver half dollars. For example 10 dimes, 4 quarters, or 2 halves all have the same weight and are 90% pure silver composition. A typical dollar face value in US silver coins will contain silver equal to about 71 % of a troy ounce of pure refined silver. These circulated silver coins are considered by many as a good way to invest in silver. They are sold by some coin dealers in bags of $1,000.00 face value per bag. Many customers have asked for smaller quantities at economical prices. So, here they are!

Walking Liberty silver Half Dollars

These are the old American halves in various grades, just like they were saved out of circulation years ago. The Walking Liberty design is one of the most beautiful US coins ever made. Each lot of twenty silver "Walkers" is different - pulled right from a bag -- similar to those in the scan. All have readable dates. A sampling shows most all are in the 1940's (some with D or S mint marks) and vary in circulated grades from about Good to Very Fine condition.

Like the other silver coins issued during those days, Walking Liberty halves are made of coin silver containing 10% copper and 90% silver. Each mint issued coin has a weight of about 12.50 grams, which equals about 36% of an ounce of pure silver.

Get two rolls of old United States silver dimes made between 1916 and 1945. Each roll contains 50 circulated coins. One hundred silver dimes in all ($10.00 Face value). A typical roll contains mostly dates in the 1940's with 97% (or more) of the dates readable. Most will grade Good to Extremely Fine condition. Nicked named the Mercury dime because the winged Liberty head design (on the front) is thought to look like the goddess Mercury. The wings crowning Liberty are meant to symbolize "liberty of thought".
