In 1996 Australia began producing the Lunar silver and gold series. Each year the design changes to match the Chinese Year of the Animal. 2001 celebrated the Year of the SNAKE and a snake is featured on their silver coins for this year. Australia is well known as a producer of silver and gold. Their coin designs hold a prominent place as some of the most beautiful in the world.

Since then they have produced gold and silver coins of various sizes including: 1996 - Rat/Mouse, 1997 - OX, 1998 - Tiger, 1999 - Rabbit, 2000 - Dragon, 2001 - Snake, 2002 - Horse, 2003 - Sheep/GOAT, 2004 - Monkey, 2005 - Rooster, and for 2006 - Dog.
