2005 Australia gold coins - Lunar Series 1

Australia began producing the Lunar gold coins series in 1996 with the design of "Year of the Rat". For 2005 the Australia (Perth Mint) government issued the "Year of the Rooster" (cockerel) design goldcoins, coinciding with the Chinese lunar calendar animal. One side of the coin displays the rooster design. The other side has a portrait of Queen Elizabeth. Each year, for 12 years, the Australian government mint (at Perth Australia) will produce gold commemorative coins celebrating the famous Chinese Calendar lunar designs. Made of pure gold , like the KANGAROO , lunar SNAKE , and TIGER gold coins. This small, SOLID GOLD 1/20th oz gold Rooster coin is in Nice Brilliant uncirculated proof like condition. Mintage was only 18,220 according to the Australia Perth Mint.

Since then they have produced gold and silver coins of various sizes including: 1996 - Rat/Mouse, 1997 - OX, 1998 - Tiger, 1999 - Rabbit, 2000 - Dragon, 2001 - Snake, 2002 - Horse, 2003 - Sheep/GOAT, 2004 - Monkey, 2005 - Rooster, and for 2006 - Dog. Some are getting quite hard to find. Australia also makes gold Kangaroo coins.
